Gramophone critic Rob Cowan talks to James Jolly about the three contenders in the Historic category of the 2011 Gramophone Classical Music Awards, presented in association with Steinway & Sons.

The discs are Testament's set of two early performances of Mahler's Tenth Symphony in Derek Cooke's performing edition; Beethoven's string trios played by Leonid Kogan, Rudolf Barshai and Mstislav Rostropovich, recorded live in Prague (Supraphon) and the Sadlers Wells production of Monteverdi's Coronation of Poppea, edited and condcuted by Raymond Leppard, with Dame Janet Baker in the title-role (Chandos).
