Applications are now open for the first Verbier Festival Music Camp, which will take place from July 7 to 28 next year, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Verbier Festival. The festival prides itself on its educational programmes, attracting some of the greatest mentors in classical music to provide tutelage for promising young artists from around the world.

The orchestral training summer camp is its latest initiative, supplementing the prestigious Festival Academy and Orchestra made up of young players in their twenties. The new project will give even younger musicians - aged between 15 and 17 - a chance to be supported and guided ‘towards an accomplished musical career,' explains Festival director and initiator of the Music Camp, Martin Engstroem.

The 60 selected young players will gain an insight into life as a professional orchestral player, with individual, sectional and full rehearsals focusing on demanding chamber and orchestral repertoire. Prominent British conductor Daniel Harding will direct the programme, with the support of emerging conductors James Gaffigan and Claudio Vandelli.

In line with the camp’s promotion of innovative methods of musical instruction, applicants must apply and audition via the online application tool Acceptd. Engstroem explains that this use of technology should open the application process ‘to as many young people in the world as possible.’
