The violinist Augustin Hadelich has been awarded the inaugural Warner Music Prize. The prize has been established by the Warner Music Group to reward a musician under the age of 35 who 'demonstrates exceptional talent and promise'. Selected by a jury of 16 artists, the winner receives a $100,000 cash prize and an opportunity to make a recording for Warner Classics. The Award is partly supported by the Blavatnik Family Foundation.

Born in Italy to German parents, Hadelich is based in New York and appears regularly with the world's great ensembles. He has recorded extensively for Avie - his coupling of concertos by Sibelius and Adès was nominated for a Gramophone Award in 2014.

This season Hadelich makes his debut with the Chicago Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. He returns to the London Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, among others, the symphonies of Atlanta, Detroit, and Seattle, among others. Other milestones this season include a London Philharmonic recording, Bournemouth Symphony residency, a return to Wigmore Hall and a recital tour of Germany.
