Classical music's New Year's honours

A pair of pianists, a conductor and a violinist on the 2016 list

In the New Year’s Honours, a handful of classical musicians were recognised. The pianist Radu Lupu, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, received a CBE. An OBE went to the conductor Steuart Bedford. The pianist Malcolm Martineau also received an OBE for ‘services to music and young singers’. The violinist Alina Ibragimova, who made such an impression with her solo appearances at the 2015 BBC Proms, received an MBE.

David Joseph, Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Universal Music UK and Ireland, received a CBE for services to the UK music industry.
