Honens International Piano Competition 2022 semifinals begin today

The semifinals will be streamed live all week via Idagio as 10 pianists compete for the $100,000 CAD first prize

The semifinals of the 2022 Honens International Piano Competition begin today, and all of the performances will be streamed live on the Honens website and on Idagio.

The semifinalists this year are Ádám Balogh, Rachel Breen, Łukasz Byrdy, Sae Yoon Chon, George Fu, Simon Karakulidi, Aleksandra Kasman Laude, Illia Ovcharenko, Philipp Scheucher and Angie Zhang. 

The Honens International Piano Competition offers a $100,000 CAD prize to the winner, plus a three-year career development programme. 

The first two semifinalists to perform will be Simon Karakulidi and Łukasz Byrdy on October 20, both will play 65-minute solo recitals. 

Previous laureates of the competition include Jean-Efflam Bavouzet (1992), Pavel Kolesnikov (2012) and Nicolas Namoradze (2018).
