The UK summer is now in full swing – complete with its traditional rain and tepid temperatures – but the King’s Singers Foundation is asking British composers to cast their thoughts forward to the Christmas season.

A new competition offers composers of all ages the chance to have their carol performed by the King’s Singers in the Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge this December, published by the Music Sales Group and recorded for Classic FM.

Composers are invited to apply for one of the competition’s four categories: un-auditioned community choir, open to composers of all ages; SATB choir, open to composers under the age of 18; SATB choir, open to composers over 18 years; and a carol for the King’s Singers, written in 6 parts, open to composers of all ages.

Judges Stephen Cleobury, John Rutter and David Hurley will select the winning compositions. All four category-winning entries will be conducted by Cleobury in King’s College Chapel on December 18 and will receive £250. The closing date for entries is August 31, 2012.
