Stravinsky's long-lost work, Funeral Song, which he wrote as a tribute to Rimsky-Korsakov, was performed just once in 1909 before the manuscript score disappeared, only to be rediscovered in the archives of St Petersburg Conservatoire last year. The work received its belated second performance from the Mariinsky Orchestra and conductor Valery Gergiev in St Petersburg, but you can watch it right here on catch-up:

Stravinsky himself thought Funeral Song to be 'the best of my works before The Firebird', and he recalled it in his Memoires of 1935: 'Unfortunately, the score of this work disappeared during the revolution... I no longer remember the music, but I recall very well my idea for the work. It was like a procession of all the soli instruments of the orchestra, coming in turns to each leave a melody in the form of a crown on the master's tomb, all the while with a low background of murmuring tremolos, like the vibrations of bass voices singing in a choir.'
