New Bryn Terfel portrait revealed in Birmingham

Birmingham’s Symphony Hall has unveiled a new portrait of Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel by Norman Perryman. The work, which was commissioned by the George Cadbury Trust, join’s Symphony Hall’s collection of 27 other Perryman paintings of artists including Sir Simon Rattle, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Yehudi Menuhin and Valery Gergiev.
The most recent portrait was revealed after a performance by Terfel and the Manchester Concert Orchestra, and depicts the singer as the Dutchman from Wagner’s Der Fliegende Holländer.
Birmingham-born Norman Perryman has depicted a number of leading artists and conductors in performance. He also ‘performs’ with orchestras, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Hallé, painting them live on stage on projector screens.
