Royal Opera House expands Cinema Season with US simulcasts

London’s Royal Opera House is expanding its 2013-14 Live Cinema Season with simulcasts in more than 500 theatres in the United States for the first time. The first ROH cinema broadcast of the season was Puccini’s Turandot, directed by Andrei Șerban, starring Lise Lindstrom and taking place in the UK on September 18. The opera will be broadcast in America on October 24 and 27.

Further works scheduled for 2013-14 in the US are Puccini’s Tosca on November 7 and 10; Verdi’s Les Vêpres siciliennes on December 5 and 8; Wagner’s Parisfal on January 9 and 12; Puccini’s La bohème on February 6 and 9 and Manon Lescaut on July 17 and 20; Mozart’s Don Giovanni on March 13 and 16; and Verdi’s Nabucco on April 3 and 6 and La Traviata on May 8 and 11.

Also broadcast live in the UK will be Verdi’s Les Vêpres siciliennes conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano and starring Erwin Schrott, Bryan Hymel and Marina Poplavskaya (Nov 4); Wagner’s Parsifal in a new staging by Stephen Langridge conducted by Pappano and starring Simon O’Neill, René Pape, Gerald Finley and Sir Willard White (Deb 18); Kasper Holten’s new production of Don Giovanni conducted by Nicola Luisotti and starring Mariusz Kwiecień and Véronique Gens (Feb 2014); and Puccini’s Manon Lescaut in a new staging by Jonathan Kent conducted by Pappano and starring Kristine Opolais, Christopher Maltman and Jonas Kaufmann.
