October issue – Mozart operas – out now!

James McCarthy Mon 12th October 2015

Introducing the October issue, which includes three major new features focusing on Mozart

In the October issue of Gramophone we celebrate Mozart's operatic genius with two thought-provoking features. What was René Jacobs's approach to the final recording in his Mozart opera series, Die Entführung aus dem Serail? Gramophone's Editor-in-Chief James Jolly meets him to find out. And how have Mozart's operas been represented on film? Opera director Mike Ashman looks at the evolution brought about by DVD and Blu-ray. In our Collection, meanwhile, Richard Wigmore moves away from opera to explore the available recordings of Mozart's Sinfonia concertante.

Elsewhere in the issue, Richard Lawrence discovers more about a unique Italian institute dedicated to reviving and recording rare French operas, and Andrew Mellor delves into Ondine's archive of Finnish composers as the label reaches its 30th anniversary.

Add to this our reviews of the most recent classical releases by our resident panel of expert critics, as well as fascinating articles on Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht, classical-jazz pianist Friedrich Gulda and composer Wim Henderickx, and you'll find an October issue that you won't be able to put down!

The October issue is now available digitally and on general sale from October 15.
