Excerpts taken from Warner Classics' 96-CD celebration of the conductor, composer and pianist

André Previn - the conductor, composer and pianist who died in February 2019 - was a prolific recording artist, and his extensive catalogues for EMI and Teldec have now been gathered together in a new 96-CD set from Warner Classics.

Those different facets of his music-making, which together with his engaging personality made him a figure with a reach far wider than many classical artists, are explored in the set, and are the focus of a bonus audio documentary by Jon Tolansky, ‘André Previn – A Memoir’.

Tolansky has selected three fascinating excerpts from those interviews to share with Gramophone readers below.

Full details of excerpts:

1. Sir Tom Stoppard recalling how his collaboration with André Previn creating the innovative play with music Every Good Boy Deserves Favour came about.

2. André Previn conducting an extract from Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem with the London Symphony Orchestra, and commentary from former London Symphony Orchestra Principal Double Bass Thomas Martin.

3. André Previn conducting an extract from Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe with the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, and commentary from André Previn.
