Benjamin Britten’s opera Peter Grimes is to be performed on Aldeburgh beach in celebration of the composer’s 100th birthday on June 17, 19 and 21, and in concert at Snape Maltings Concert Hall on June 7 and 9.

Directed by Tim Albery and starring Alan Oke in the title role, the open-air staging forms part of the 66th Aldeburgh Festival – founded by Britten and Peter Pears in 1948 – and Aldeburgh's yearlong Britten Centenary celebrations. Theatre company Punchdrunk has also devised a Grimes journey around the town of Aldeburgh, entitled The Borough.
