This striking new work, filmed at Wigmore Hall, is our Video of the Day

During lockdown, viola player Lawrence Power commissioned ten short pieces, all to be filmed in venues currently vacated as a result of the Coronavirus crisis. Aside from being creatively fascinating, the films have also proved a poignant exploration of the relationship between an artist - necessarily performing solo - and a location more usually encountered as place of shared musical experience.

Erkki-Sven Tüür is the composer behind Lockdown Commission #7 - Locked in C. It was recorded at London's Wigmore Hall - an appropriate film for release today, as not only has the venue just announced the return of audiences from May 17, but also that Lawrence Power has become an Associate Artist.

Lockdown Commission #7 - Locked in C by Erkki-Sven Tüür, performed by Lawrence Power, was filmed at Wigmore Hall by Jessie Rodger, with sound by Brett Cox.

You can learn more about Lawrence Power's Lockdown Commissions, and watch the first work in the series, in an earlier feature; another striking work in the series highlighted on our site was Daylonging, Slacktide by Cassandra Miller, which you can watch here.
