The 2017 Young Artist of the Year demonstrates her poetic pianism

Last week we named Beatrice Rana as our Young Artist of the Year, and she follows in a very distinguished line of young pianists who have won this Award in recent years, including Joseph Moog (2015), Jan Lisiecki (2013), Benjamin Grosvenor (2012) and Yuja Wang (2009). 

Rana's recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations wowed our critic Harriet Smith when she reviewed it in the April 2017 issue: 'Her detailing is one of the aspects that makes this performance so compelling, be it the bringing out of a new line in the repeat, subtle changes in phrasing, a touch of pedal – examples are to be found in every single variation.'
