The Cecilia Chorus of New York have produced an interesting insight into an unfairly neglected composer

The Cecilia Chorus of New York and their Music Director Mark Shapiro will be giving a rare performance of Dame Ethel Smyth's The Prison at Carnegie Hall in New York on May 11. They celebrate this important performance they have produced a mini-documentary about Smyth's life and music – including her close involvement with the Suffragettes – with a particular focus on the music that Smyth wrote for The Prison, which you can enjoy below. The Prison will be performed alongside Mozart's Requiem. For full concert information, please visit: ceciliachorusny.org
