Video of the day: Rachel Mahon plays the Organ of Coventry Cathedral

Director of Music at Coventry Cathedral Rachel Mahon performs Healey Willan's 'Introduction'

In today's (beautifully produced) video, Rachel Mahon, organist and Director of Music at Coventry Cathedral, performs Healey Willan's 'Introduction' on the instrument that she knows so well.

Mahon's new album for Delphian featuring Canadian organ music was very highly praised by Gramophone's Marc Rochester in the March issue. Rochester wrote: ‘Healey Willan – dare one label him the “father” of modern Canadian organ music? – is represented by his grand, majestic Introduction, Passacaglia and Fugue, which might be said to be the one Canadian work that has found a place at the core of the recitalist’s repertory. Here is as stirring a performance as you could wish for, greatly enhanced by an outstanding recording from Delphian that encompasses the vast dynamic and pitch range of the Coventry organ superbly.’ (Read the full review here)

Mahon's new album of Canadian organ music is out now. Listen on Apple Music below:
