Among this month's Gramophone Editor's Choices is the superb new release from James Ehnes, of Ysaÿe's Sonatas for Solo Violin, released on the Onyx label. Remarkably, the album was home-recorded during lockdown, in the early hours when all was quiet. As Ehnes himself puts it, performing in this way ‘during these troubled times makes for a powerful and intimate listening experience’.
