Following a position in the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Mayer joined the Berlin Philharmonic in 2002 as principal oboist and has been a member of the orchestra’s woodwind section ever since. A frequent soloist, Mayer has recorded extensively and appeared on numerous recordings under Abbado, Rattle and others.
