BBT awards a varied line-up of ensembles and instrumentalists with prizes

The 2024 awardees are the Leonkoro Quartet, who were featured in Gramophone following their win at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, and the Mithras Trio. Fellowships have been given to violinist Hana Chang, double bass player Will Duerden, soprano Lucy Fitz Gibbon, clarinettist Jonathan Leibovitz and pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko. Prizes range from £20,000 - £30,000, while the Trust also supports artists with PR and media communications.

The Trust is currently designing creative projects for them to be involved in, including the commissioning and recording of new works as well as performances designed for diverse audiences.

The BBT was founded by politician and businesswoman Ilaria Borletti Buitoni and her husband Franco Buitoni in 2002. Aimed at classical instrumentalists, ensembles and singers in their early 20s and 30s, the Trust funds tailor-made projects with the aim of furthering the international careers of the awardees. The awards are announced every other year on March 17 to mark the birthday of Franco Buitoni.

Toby Smith, CEO of the BBT says ‘Perhaps the greatest pleasure of my first months leading the Borletti-Buitoni Trust has been getting to know the artists we are supporting, and to understand their ambitions and hopes for the future. And now it is an equal pleasure to share with you the 12 remarkable artists with whom the Trust will co-create bespoke programmes to energise their artistic development over the next years.’
