British Bass Brindley Sherratt and pianist Julius Drake perform Sea Fever by John Ireland from their new album on Delphian Records

John Ireland, prolific 20th century composer, though known for his Piano Concerto, hymn tunes and instrumental work 'The Holy Boy', much of his output was focused around songs with piano. Today's Video of the Day shares a track from Brindley Sherratt and Julius Drake's new album 'Fear No More' out on Delphian Records.

'Sea-Fever' is a poem by John Masefield, from his first collection of poetry, Salt-Water Ballads, published in 1902. Ireland's setting of the text was written in 1913 and begins:

I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face and a grey dawn breaking.
