A performance from the pianist and soprano to mark Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day

Our video of the day brings a performance from Russian-American pianist Kirill Gerstein and Armenian soprano Ruzan Mantashyan, who perform 'Antuni' by Komitas, the Ottoman-Armenian priest, musicologist, composer, arranger and singer. Gerstein writes that the performance is ‘in Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, and in solidarity with victims of mass violence everywhere’.

'Antuni' forms part of Music in Time of War - the new album from Gerstein, scheduled to coincide with Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day today. The double-album places the music of Komitas alongside Claude Debussy, who himself was a great admirer of Komitas's music. 'Music in Time of War' grew from Gerstein’s fascination with music’s power to reflect a narrative, as well as the impact of war and genocide on the two composers.

Discover the album below, out now Platoon. A physical album, including a premium 172 page book, will be released by myrios classics on 2 May
