Today's Video of the Day is a performance of Jamie Powe's 'Surge' by Trinity College Director of Music Steven Grahl. This composition and filmed performance were commissioned as part of the Choir & Organ New Music 2025 series, in partnership with The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge.
Jamie Powe (b.1995) studied composition at Oxford with Toby Young and Deborah Pritchard, and continued his studies at The Royal Academy of Music with David Gorton and Gareth Moorcraft, alongside his choral conducting MA. He was one of the 2024/5 Young Composers with National Youth Choir. Recent commissions include The Gun Mass, which has been performed in both the US and UK, and exhibited at St Andrews’ University. As a conductor, Jamie is currently Musical Director of The Fourth Choir, Laurelin Voices, New London Singers, Putney Choral Society and The Aubrey Singers.
The Choir & Organ New Music Series is an annual programme of specially commissioned pieces for choir or organ. The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge is the commissioning partner for New Music 2025. Free scores of all Choir & Organ New Music 2025 commissions are made specially available free of charge for six months from date of first publication.
