The guitarist's new albums explore the instrument's relationship with many styles and traditions

For the latest Gramophone podcast, Editor Martin Cullingford is joined by the guitarist Sharon Isbin to discuss her two new albums, both out today. The first, Affinity, features contemporary works - and four world premiere recordings from Chris Brubeck, Leo Brouwer, Tan dun, Richard Danielpour – which in different ways explore and celebrate the classical guitar's relationship with different musical styles and traditions. Then on Strings for Peace, she joins sarod master Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash for a journey through the ragas and talas of North Indian classical music. Both albums are released on the Zoho label, and you can hear excerpts plus the fascinating background to the music-making, on the podcast.
