This CD, like much classical 'pop', falls between two stools for it seems far too undemanding to concentrate the attention and yet far too well done to be dismissed as background music. All these overtures are full of hummable tunes and in every case they are both well recorded and presented. The cello solo in the Suppe is nicely achieved and the fiddles excel in The bartered bride.'
