Kropat and Krumeich play with intelligence, well-shaped phrasing, attractive tone and (for the most part) are well synchronized; animation is, however, in somewhat short supply, especially in the Sor, and in the ever-so-careful ''Danza espa-nola,'' No. 1 from La vida breve, the energetically attacked chords do not compensate for a lack of genuine fire. A duo that wish to introduce themselves to their wider public need to show rather more initiative than this, largely a trip down well-trodden 'touristic' paths, and to inject a little more variety of pace into the proceedings. Whether they have the reserves of technique to do the latter is another question, over which the ambling pace of the final movement of
