Toscanini Collection, Vol.71
Acoustically recorded, these first-ever Toscanini recordings are inevitably muted examples of the great conductor in his early fifties, half-way through his career. The transfer engineers have equalized the originals to make them sound like electrical recordings, with a resulting loss of clarity and unnecessary distortion. It would have been better to get as much information as possible out of the original recording characteristics. With patience this disc still yields much information and gives pleasure, and several of the items were not recorded again by Toscanini. '
