Laszlo Heltay contributes to two of the three works here, as he not only directs the Hymn of Zrinyi but has prepared the Brighton Festival Chorus for the invigorating performance of the Psalmus Hungaricus under Kertesz. These now join the classic Kertesz version of Dvorak's Requiem, a work that has some superb moments but that does need persuasive advocacy. This it most certainly gets, in a recording that comes up well in the new format, from Kertesz. The Requiem also gets fine advocacy in the original album booklet from Malcolm Rayment, who speaks eloquently for the music's range and expressiveness, it is deplorable to find Decca boiling this down from 3,000 words to something a sixth of the length which is now, understandably, anonymous.'
