I enjoyed this collection most in its cassette format which sounds slightly smoother at the top than the CD, which at times is not without a touch of digital edge on the violins, noticeable immediately at the opening of the sprightly entrance of the ''Queen of Sheba''. The offering is generous (about an hour of music) but this is essentially high-quality background music and I appreciated it best in the car (while indeed it is also suitable for Walkman enthusiasts). So let me say frankly that, good though it is, I don't think the CD worth the extra money. The music itself is all enjoyable, played with commitment and baroque vigour, if not always immaculate in ensemble. The Pezel is a little 'square' in its invention (using the adjective in its colloquial sense) but rather engagingly so, while Georg Muffat's Delirium (if hardly anticipating Scriabin) makes a good shot at being daring. The Telemann Viola Concerto is the most substantial piece and comes off well. The CD emphasizes the rather close balance.'
