‘Play pretty for the people, those who love convenience food and easy-listening snippets’ is the unwritten subtitle of this collection of well-tried (some only with guitarists) favourites, played by Alexandre Lagoya ‘with strings’. The commercial formula is familiar, and in these times you can’t really blame a man who has fully paid his classical dues for riding the bandwagon. It’s all very smoothly and professionally done, and for those who like the new bottles into which old wine has been decanted (with added ingredients) it will appeal strongly and should sell and sell, for they are many. Those with a more serious interest in the guitar and its music will be less beguiled. Horses for courses, as it were.'
