The Janet Hilton/Chandos record referred to above consists of the Quintet, the Grand duo concertant and the Silvana Variations: these are delightful performances, with the Lindsays and Keith Swallow providing Hilton with splendid support. Dangain's record has the Quintet and the Grand duo concertant so far as Weber is concerned; the third piece is the Introduction, Theme and Variations which has been published under Weber's name but which I am quoted on the sleeve-note as refusing to attribute to that composer. Since I wrote that, it has, I am relieved to say, been identified as not Weber's work but that of Josef Kuffner. This is by now quite well enough known for the company not to have put the record out with an attribution to Weber. In any case, Dangain's performances, though often deft and attractive, are less idiomatic than those of Hilton.'
