A live-streamed panel discussion tonight from London’s Institut Français will explore the issue of gender equality in classical and contemporary music.

Among those exploring the topic are innovative composer and singer Héloïse Werner, recent recipient of a Gramophone Editor’s Choice as part of the Hermes Experiment, fellow composers Anne Lovett, Angèle David-Guillou and Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, and conductor Stéphanie Childress, second prize winner of the recent Maestra International Competition for Women Conductors. The discussion will be chaired by BBC Radio presenter Katie Derham, and also feature live music performances.

Tune in at 6.30pm (UK time) at either Facebook (@InstitutFrancaisLondon) or YouTube (FrenchInstituteUK) - or you can simply watch it below.

The event - of which Gramophone is a media partner - is organised in partnership with Academy La Maestra, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Paris Mozart Orchestra, in the wake of the inaugural edition of the Maestra International Competition for Women Conductors last September, and as part of the Institut Français’s ongoing strand, Women Shaping the World.
