The original central London HMV store will reopen later this year, following four years away from Oxford Street. The shop was shut in 2019 after the company went into administration, but after a takeover and having now returned to profit, the historic outlet – initially opened in 1921 – will reopen, while 24 new sites and 14 existing stores will also be similarly rebranded this year.

Opened by Elgar, and emblazoned for many years with ‘His Master’s Voice – home entertainment and electric housekeeping’, together with the famed logo of Nipper and a gramophone, the shop became a retail icon, boasting a renowned classical music department. Ironically, while the web had caused major challenges for bricks-and-mortar shops such as HMV, the company credits the recent vinyl revival for its turnaround. LPs will feature strongly in the new-look shop, along with pop culture merchandise and technology.
